A new book shines the spotlight on Nova Scotia’s 31 incorporated towns.

Towns of Nova ScotiaTowns of Nova Scotia - Profiles and Ratings by Richard Rogers, examines each of the province’s towns and ranks them on the basis of various ‘livability’ criteria.

See how each town ranks, and what makes Nova Scotia’s towns some of the most charming, progressive and interesting towns in the country — proving Nova Scotia is a very attractive province.

Consider these highlights:

Annapolis Royal, judged to be "the world’s most livable small town" in 2004, is the home of the Annapolis Tidal Generating Station (the only one in North America), that supplies one per cent of Nova Scotia’s electricity.

Port Hawkesbury’s new Civic Centre uses advanced technology from a Nova Scotia company to illuminate its building and ice surface with engineered natural daylight, earning itself the distinction of being one of the top ten sports stadiums in the world.

Springhill has pioneered the use of geothermal energy and uses it to heat and air condition its new civic centre and to maintain the rink’s ice surface.

Other Nova Scotia towns have earned distinctions that are also highlighted in this book. The towns are ranked and appear in order of their scores in 14 diverse categories. Some of these include number of children; climate for gardening; university attainment; family income; affordable housing; employment rate and multicultural population.

In addition to the rankings, we have chosen full-colour photo's for each town, which capture some of their prominent features, giving you a sense of the town prior to your visit.

Towns of Nova Scotia is a 144-page paperback and retails for $24.95 (ISBN 0-920427-72-3). It is published by Four East Publications and distributed by Glen Margaret Publishing, and can be ordered here >www.glenmargaret.com
